AnnotationThe pre-retirement pilots project is a national initiative proposed in the NHS Plan and included in the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) Standard Eight. The project explores ways to improve the health and well-being of people in the mid-life age group (age 55 to 65) and inequalities in health. This pack provides an introduction to, and evaluation of, the project and the eight pilot sites: Hackney - Agewell Project; North Southwark - Southwark Active; North Nottinghamshire; Hull and East Riding; North Staffordshire - Beth Johnson Foundation (BJF); Sandwell - Looking Forward; Osteoporosis Dorset; and East Devon: Fifty Something - Fit for the Future. Four Briefing papers consider the pilot's cross-cutting themes: how the pre-retirement initiative is addressing Standard Eight of the NSF; inequalities in health; the effectiveness of community development approaches underpinning the pre-retirement initiative; and learning networks and the pre-retirement initiative. Further four briefing papers (numbers 5 to 8) were added in 2003 and a final report is due in October 2003. (RH/KJ).
