AnnotationThe Duke Established Populations for Epidemiologic Studies of the Elderly (EPESE) cohort of 3730 people aged 65+ was assessed annually (1986-1996). Competing risk of household expansion or risk of institutionalisation was modelled using hazard of either event, and odds of household expansion or institutionalisation in older people who experienced an event. Hazard of either event was associated with younger age. Among those who reported either event, odds of institutionalisation (vs household expansion) were associated with older age. (RH).
