Ageism and age discrimination in Canada: an introduction part one | Author(s) | Charmaine Spencer |
Journal title | GRC News, vol 21, no 2, Winter 2002 |
Pages | pp 3-6 (1/3) |
Keywords | Ageism ; Canada. |
Annotation | This article sets out to introduce the subject of ageism, and defines ageism and age discrimination as laid out in Canadian legislature. Information about provincial and federal human rights legislation is given e.g. the Ontario Human Rights Code which covers the actions of individuals, private bodies providing services to the public and various levels of government; whereas the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms only applies to "government action". The author asserts that too few age discrimination cases are coming before human rights commissions, despite this legislature and considers better legal advocacy is still required in Canada. (KJ). |
