Annotation | Since 1990, there has been a marked increase in the number of grandparents in the US who raise their grandchildren. School psychologists and counsellors are increasingly called upon to assist this growing population. This article considers some of the key issues facing these grandparents: the emotional needs of grandchildren and grandparents; financial support; legal concerns; and adapting to the transitions in their lives. Intervention strategies for school psychologists and counsellors are suggested. (RH). |
