AnnotationFollowing responses to the consultation document, "Towards equality and diversity" (Cabinet Office, 2001), this document summarises the Government's plans to change existing equality legislation (in relation to sex, race and disability) and to introduce new laws (on sexual orientation, religion and age). It outlines the Employment, Race and Equal Treatment Directives agreed at the end of 2001 that require European Union (EU) member states to introduce legislation to outlaw unfair discrimination on the grounds of race, sexual orientation, religion or belief, disability and age. Copies of five relevant Draft Regulations are also available on request, and along with this document are also the subjects of consultation. There will be a a separate consultation document on age legislation in 2003. (RH).
