AnnotationWokingham became a unitary authority in April 1998, and assumed responsibility for social services from the former Berkshire County Council. The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution to the further improvement of services provided. It concludes that most but not all users are well served, and the overall quality of services for adults is good and generally well regarded by service users. Older service users spoke positively about day services, an intermediate care unit, and the quality of home care services - although there were some concerns about the continuity of carers. An example of good practice cited in the report is the development of a preventative service for older people through the Partnership with Health Team. Priorities for action identified by the Review include continuing the process of modernisation of services to older people; and delivering improvements in care management where performance is currently not satisfactory.
