AnnotationThis consultation builds on the 1998 Green Paper "A new contract for welfare: partnership in pensions" (Cm 4179). It sets out: an assessment of the challenges faced on pensions; proposals for helping people to make informed choice in pensions; measures for improving planning and saving for retirement in the workplace; further proposals on financial services for providing simple and flexible products; measures for helping older people to remain in or return to work; and the particular challenges women face in accumulating sufficient pension income. Reference is made to "Simplifying the taxation of pensions", published by the Treasury and Inland Revenue at the same time as this Green Paper. (RH).
