Annotation | A large, representative sample of caregivers of people with dementia in France took part in this study, in which common complaints they reported are described, backed up by information by primary care physicians. The commonest family complaint, regardless of stage of disease, concerned withdrawal and loss of motivation. The major difficulty experienced by informal caregivers providing home care for Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients concerns relief and their request for ways of providing temporary relief to be developed for the future. The informal caregiver is ill-informed and his/her needs are here targeted on the disease and its progression. (RH). |
