Annotation | Currently, there is no benchmarking tool for person-centred care within the Department of Health's "Essence of Care" framework. In this first of four articles, the authors outline the evaluative framework they are developing. They have identified six main factors within the Person-centred care element, each with its own best practice statement and guidance notice: assessment of needs; providing person-centred care; monitoring person-centred care; reviewing person-centred care; user and carer involvement; and relevance to practice.
