AnnotationPeople with memory difficulties are referred to older people psychiatry services via a number of different referral routes. Whatever the route taken, the assessor offers clients some pre-diagnostic counselling. This paper covers the practices relating to the diagnostic assessment, but it is not intended to be prescriptive about the procedures. It outlines: consent to referral for assessment (either by GPs or a memory screening service); preliminary procedures at the first neuropsychology appointment; obtaining informed consent; observations during the assessment; and feedback of the results.
