Annotation | The Committee's inquiry looks at the Government's initiatives to tackle delayed discharge from hospital, and examines the wider context, extent and costs of the problem. It lists the Government's main policy measures in this area; analyses chronologically the different processes involved in delayed discharge in order to mirror a patient's own journey through the hospital and care system; and looks at structural issues relating to the health and social care system in relation to delayed discharges. The Committee rejects the use of the term "blocked beds" to refer to patients ready for discharge but who are occupying hospital beds, and urges the Department of Health (DH) to do likewise. (RH). |
