AnnotationThe relation between (and the impact of) poor housing and ill health has been a major concern in social policy for many years. This report sets out the beneficial impact of improved housing conditions on health, and highlights some ways in which home improvement agencies (HIAs) are working with Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and others to improve health through housing-based services. The connections between policy directives from the Department of Health and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) are summarised. The report describes the work of schemes providing information and/or training; home safety audits and falls prevention; intermediate care; hospital discharge; floating support workers; and tackling ill health by reducing fuel poverty. The aim is to provide planners, commissioners and service providers with some service models that may provide a useful starting point in the development of local policies and initiatives. (RH).
