AnnotationThe author outlines research conducted with Manchester Social Services Department (SSD) that elicited older people's views of how they defined quality in home care services. The article lists the top ten characteristics given both by under 80s and over 80s. While under 80s also listed companionship, safety and having enough money, the over 80s wanted activities to keep their minds active and the provision of help to deal with everyday domestic tasks. The findings, "Quality at home for older people: involving service users in defining home care specification", by Norma Raynes, Bogusia Temple and Charlotte Glenister, are published by the Policy Press (2001).
