Annotation | Despite the relatively well-developed nature of occupational pension provision in the UK, it is widely recognised that only around half of the working population has access to such a scheme. The continually declining value of the basic state pension and the retreat of many employers from providing decent occupational pensions means that a huge transfer of responsibility for pension provision is already occurring. This report outlines general trends in inequalities in pension provision, how size of organisation affects pension coverage, age and pension scheme membership, who gets defined contribution pensions, and the geography of provision.
