AnnotationBy 2005, there will be around 59,000 people in New Zealand aged 85 and over, and by 2050 this will have increased to almost 300,000 (or 6% of all New Zealanders). This statistical review is presented in the context of "ageing in place" (that is, older people remaining in their own homes until the end of their lives), which is linked to "positive ageing". Information comes from a wide range of New Zealand official data collected from public sector and quasi-governmental agencies. Chapters cover: individuals, households and housing; incomes and financial resources; activities; health; and security and well-being. (RH).
