AnnotationThe Social Services Inspectorate (SSI) conducted a series of 23 inspections of older people's social services during the winter and spring of 2001-2002. The themes examined in this report are: quality of services for older people and their carers; assessment and care management; and commissioning of services, partnership working, and effectiveness and efficiency. The report, which includes examples of good practice and an evaluation checklist, emphasises the interdependence of policy, management and operational activity. The social services departments (SSDs) inspected were Barnsley, Bradford, Bromley, East Riding of Yorkshire, Essex, Hampshire, Kingston-upon-Thames, Knowsley, Lambeth, Lincolnshire, Manchester, Northamptonshire, Richmond-upon-Thames, Rotherham, Solihull, Southampton, Southwark, Staffordshire, Stockton-on-Tees, West Sussex, Wigan, Wirral, and York. The main messages from the inspections were that services were continuing to improve, and there had been positive response to the National Service Framework (NSF). (RH).
