AnnotationGiven the impact that good nutrition and keeping fit have on health and well-being in later life, WHO in collaboration with the Tufts University USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging organised a consultation to review the scientific evidence linking diet and other factors, especially exercise. This report discusses the epidemiological and social aspects of ageing, health and functional changes with ageing, the impact of physical activity, assessing older people's nutritional status, and nutritional guidelines for healthy ageing. Additional material covers food-based dietary guidelines for older people - with particular emphasis on healthy ageing and the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases - and guidelines for promoting physical activity among older people.
