Annotation | Older Americans Nutrition Program meals are required to provide appropriate proportions of participants' daily nutrient needs. To date, many Programs have not implemented the Institute of Medicine's Food and Nutrition Board's new Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) as the standards for meals. The US Administration on Aging, with assistance from the National Policy and Resource Center on Nutrition and Aging, is developing guidance for the Aging Network regarding use of the latest DRI values. A table summarizes the new DRIs for persons aged 51 to 70 and 70 plus. Another table shows how Program meals meet the DRIs in comparison to the 1989 RDAs (recommended dietary allowances). (KJ/RH). |
