AnnotationDietitians who work with older hospital patients need specialised training to assess nutritional needs, and to develop appropriate, cost-effective interventions for their patients. The programme "Nutrition and Ageing: implications for hospital-based care" was evaluated. This is a US continuing education programme designed to help dietitians make plans to implement and adhere to selected evidence-based nutritional recommendations for the older hospital population. The 79 participating dietitians made reasonable plans consistent with course objectives, and made progress in implementing most intentions. Future courses should address implementation barriers and methods that might help overcome them. (KJ/RH).
