Annotation | Home modifications (HMs) are an effective strategy for improving older people's quality of life. In this paper, the authors use an historical perspective to analyse the evolution of home modification support programmes for community-dwelling frail older people in Japan. The context of the inclusion of the home modification programme as part of Japan's newly implemented National Long Term Care Insurance System (LTCIS) is analysed, along with the lessons learned from the programme.
