Annotation | A survey of older people living in Manchester, Liverpool and east London found poverty and ignorance of the benefits available for those living on or below the poverty line. The author and colleagues from the School of Social Relations at Keele University have been looking at how older people cope with poverty, and how raising their pensions would help local communities. Their report, "Growing older in socially-deprived areas: social exclusion in later life", is published by Help the Aged. This article introduces a few examples from their research, to illustrate policy issues concerning social inclusion and urban regeneration. (RH). |
