AnnotationWindsor and Maidenhead is one of six unitary authorities established in Berkshire in 1998. The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well people in Windsor and Maidenhead are being served by their social services. The Review found that the Authority is not serving people well, with weaknesses in access, assessment and care management. There are some strengths within older people's services, including the occupational therapy service and rapid response home care. An example of good practice mentioned in the report is the enhanced sheltered housing run by Windsor and Maidenhead Housing Association. Priorities for action recommended by the review include: putting the needs of users and carers at the heart of the organisation; making it easier for people in need to access services; improving assessments and reviews, and targeting services effectively; and building up a range of services that promote independence.
