AnnotationTwenty-five teaching texts and reference sources, and more than 1200 journal articles were surveyed to determine the coverage of older women's issues in the gerontological literature. Despite the fact that most older adults are women and the clear importance of understanding gender differences in ageing, little scholarship is currently focused on older women. On average, older women were mentioned in only 4% of the content of textbooks, handbooks and encyclopaedias, and were the focus of fewer than four articles annually per journal. Older women's issues and gender differences in ageing remain fertile and important areas for researchers, authors and educators. (KJ/RH).
