Annotation | In 1998, England and Wales held more life sentence prisoners (approaching 4,000) than the remainder of Western Europe put together. The Prison Reform Trust study reports on findings of interviews with 89 male lifers currently serving sentences. The issues raised include information provision, lifers' perceptions of the "fairness" of the Parole Board review system, and their support networks, including family ties. The PRT report is supplemented by a questionnaire-based study of 116 male lifers by the Prisoners' Advice Service. (RH). |
