Annotation | A new approach to nursing home care in the US based on collaboration and teamwork can improve the quality of care for residents. This report describes how Wellspring Innovative Solutions, Inc., an alliance of 11 non-profit nursing homes in Wisconsin, is seeking to improve care principally by empowering staff. It finds that implementing the Wellspring model improved retention rates for nursing staff, and has led to a more proactive approach to resident care, a better quality of life for residents (who also benefited from improved interaction with staff), and lower costs.
