AnnotationResearchers based at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy look closely at the needs and characteristics of Medicare's disabled beneficiaries and compare them with those of Americans aged 65+. Although the disabled use more medication than the over 65s, they have been largely neglected in the debate over a Medicare prescription drug benefit, and are likely to be disadvantaged in policy changes that appear more favourable to older people. Support for this research was provided by the Commonwealth Fund and the Henry J Kaiser Family Foundation. (RH).
