AnnotationThis publication is the first report from the 2001 Census of Population for England and Wales. It provides a snapshot of the resident population as at Census Day, 29 April 2001. The results give population totals by age and sex, at national and local authority levels. The report is also available on the National Statistics website, where there is supplementary information. This includes commentary on changes in the populations of England and Wales between 1951 and 2001, and figures for each local authority in England and Wales on the response achieved by the 2001 Census.
