Annotation | Changes in the meaning and experience of growing older suggest that it is timely to reflect on the contribution of educational gerontology to both theory and practice over the last 30 years. In relation to this, it is possible to comment on how such achievements might impact on the practice of those whose professional commitments bring them into contact with older people, whether as social workers, educationalists, or in some other capacity. The author also considers the challenges facing us in thinking about older people's opportunities for education and learning at the beginning of the 21st century. These include rethinking the relationship between education and lifelong learning, and understanding how older people themselves regard learning. (RH). |
