Annotation | Key aspects of an Australian two-stage research project that aimed to develop a model for sustainable lifespan curriculum are described. The first stage measured schoolchildren's attitudes and values about older people and the ageing process. The views of older adults and teachers were also canvassed regarding the impact of their involvement with the children. The second stage focused on developing a flexible lifespan curriculum model, to establish a school-based intergenerational programme, which incorporated pre-service teachers and older people working together in a primary school class. A partnership between school and university educators was established for these purposes, during the course of which, the elements necessary to achieve a sustainable lifespan curriculum were identified. The model developed may serve as a framework to guide schools and universities that are preparing or providing pre-service and postgraduate ageing and lifespan curricula. (RH). |
