Annotation | 6,714 older Americans from the first and second waves of the Asset and Health Dynamics among the Oldest-Old Survey (AHEAD) were examined using a short form of the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) and a single question on health. Depressive symptomatology was found to be an independent risk factor for subsequent changes in self-rated health in older people. Thus, early prevention and intervention in depressive symptoms could be critical in promoting and maintaining older people's self-rated health. (RH). |
