Annotation | Non-pharmacological methods for reducing disruptive behaviour in people with dementia have been developed, but are lacking documentation regarding their actual effectiveness. This study describes an intervention that teaches nursing home staff specific techniques for reducing problem behaviour during bathing, using the acronym PRIDE (privacy, reassurance, information, distraction, and evaluation). Using a pre/post design, observations were made of resident behaviour, using the Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI). Within-subject improvement was observed for the five behaviours of interest, although only anxiety and irritability were significantly improved. (RH). |
