Annotation | This paper describes how a US one entry-level master's degree programme in occupational therapy promotes research skills. An example is presented of one line of gerontological research - specifically with family caregivers of people with dementia - which requires faculty-supervised student involvement. This example emphasises the relationship between clinical and research excellence, the positive and practical implications of findings for the target population, and the enthusiasm for faculty mentoring and role modelling. One programme's approach to motivating students to participate in research involving older adults is described; the intent is to stimulate ideas across the spectrum of health professions. (KJ/RH). |
