Annotation | Graduate education in gerontology would do well to include strategies that can be used to conduct a successful research programme without significant external grant funding. Many students will work in academic contexts where their research is an expected part of the job, but resources for conducting it are minimal. Many data sets from previous research are currently available from the internet at little or no expense (appendices draw attention to selected databases, software packages and research method texts). These can easily become the basis for in-depth interviews, which can make a significant contribution to knowledge. At the same time, these allow the researcher to do valuable research without substantial outside research funding. (KJ/RH). |
