AnnotationThe Department of Health (DH) consultation paper, "A quality strategy for social care" set out a range of proposals to support quality and continuous improvement in social care. The Quality Strategy underlined the importance of the post of Director of Social Services in ensuring effective governance of social care, and consulted on guidance to be issued by the DH regarding the roles of Directors. This letter confirms the outcome of that consultation, and outlines the requirements for councils with social services responsibilities to retain appointment of a Director of Social Services. (RH).
