Annotation | Comprehensive geriatric assessment has been defined as "a multidimensional, often interdisciplinary, diagnostic process intended to determine a frail older person's medical, psychosocial and functional capabilities and problems, with the objective of developing an overall plan for treatment and long-term follow-up". This paper provides an overview of the concepts and criteria used to define frailty and to target appropriate candidates for outpatient CGA programmes. An experienced medical librarian carried out an English language search of MEDLINE, HealthSTAR, CANAHL, and Current Contents databases, to identify the relevant literature from January 1990 to September 2001.
