Addressing the information needs of older patients | Author(s) | Matthew Harris, Antony Bayer, Win Tadd |

Annotation | Most older patients want information about their medical condition and its management. Indeed, the provision of relevant information is a fundamental prerequisite of consumer participation in decision-making in health care; but such information needs to be accurate and understandable. This literature review focuses on barriers to meeting health information needs, and on the range of information sources and provision that is available: from discussions with the doctor, to printed and electronic sources. Access to such information has the potential for increasing knowledge and satisfaction, decreasing symptoms, improving older patients' treatment compliance, and reducing carers' stress. (RH). |
