AnnotationOn 23 July 2002, the Secretary of State for Health announced proposals to consult on an amended list of environmental standards, to ensure that care home owners are in no doubt about the standards they should meet. This consultation document sets out how the national minimum standards should be amended, so that certain environmental standards will no longer apply to care homes which existed before 1 April 2002. The standards for care homes for older people relate to assisted baths, passenger lifts, doorways, room sizes, and shared rooms. The National Care Standards Commission (NCSC) will continue to assess the adequacy of provision. The consultation closes on 8 November 2002. (RH).
