AnnotationA project undertaken by older people in the Bournemouth area and supported by Help and Care (an independent voluntary organisation in Dorset) indicates that the voices of the over 50s should be heard in research, service planning and service delivery. This is in line with involving and consulting as detailed in the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF), the Better Government for Older People (BGOP) and the NHS Plan. Part 1 of the report outlines the two research studies: structured interviews with 36 older people considered how their independence was affected; and three focus groups which considered the support required to enable people to remain living at home or to move to suitable accommodation. Part 2 - on the research process - examined the background to using peer researchers; describes the research group recruitment process; provides details of the research group in action; examines the experience of being involved in research from the group's perspective; considers Help and Care's experience of working with a group of peer researchers; and sets out conclusions regarding the process. The project was commissioned and funded by Bournemouth Borough Council Social Services. (RH).
