AnnotationThe reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the Life Management Strategies: Selection, Optimization, and Compensation Questionnaire (SOC questionnaire) were investigated in a Hong Kong Chinese older adults sample. The internal consistency, construct validity, convergent validity and discriminant validity of the Chinese version were also established. The SOC questionnaire demonstrated acceptable internal consistency including the three subscales: Elective selection, Optimization and Compensation. In terms of construct validity, this questionnaire correlated negatively with depressive symptoms assessed by the Center for Epidemiological Studies of Depression (CES-D) scale. The construct validity of the SOC questionnaire was demonstrated by the positive association between the SOC questionnaire and self-esteem and life satisfaction. Finally, the convergent and discriminant validity of the SOC questionnaire were also established by the significant association between all three subscales and other factors. (KJ/RH).
