Tapping the potential of home improvement agencies | Author(s) | Robin Means, Hazel Morbey, Terry McClatchey |
Journal title | Journal of Dementia Care, vol 10, no 4, July/August 2002 |
Pages | pp 24-26 |
Keywords | Dementia ; Informal care ; Owner occupied dwellings ; Improvement ; Advisory services [elderly]. |
Annotation | Recent research has investigated the extent to which home improvement agencies (HIAs) work with people with dementia and their carers. The authors outline their findings - which they have presented in detail in "Housing adaptation and improvements for people with dementia: developing the role of home improvement agencies" (University of the West of England, 2001) - and discuss the issues raised and future opportunities. Their research indicates the specialist housing advice that can be made available to older people with dementia and their carers. It is suggested that health and welfare professionals need to find out whether specialist HIA help is available in their area. (RH). |
