Breaking the taboo older lesbians and gay men | Author(s) | Paula Jones |

Annotation | The social isolation experienced by older lesbians and gay men has only been acknowledged in recent years. Even so, they have formed their own organisations and support groups, but have received very little funding. Recognition of the impact of HIV/AIDS on older people has led to organisations such as Age Concern developing more proactive partnership with older lesbians and gay men. This article reports on "Opening Doors", a one-day conference in April 2002 organised by Age Concern England (ACE). The conference was the first of its kind at national level, at which older lesbians and gay men discussed experiences and issues on their own terms with service providers, policy-makers and researchers.
