The report begins to recognise the contribution made by carers in bringing about social change in their local communities, and the support and well-being of carers, disabled people and older people. Of 1,600 completed forms returned to Carers UK, 872 of the respondents indicated that they had been involved in their local community, in support of carers, disabled people and older people. This summary outlines carers' roles in community involvement, and recommendations the main report makes for government bodies, local regeneration agencies, local government, health services, employers, carers' organisations and the wider voluntary sector.
