AnnotationDarlington became a unitary authority in 1997, and was formerly part of Durham County Council; it is the fifth smallest authority in England. The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution towards further improvement of the services provided. The Joint review concludes that Darlington serves some people well and has promising prospects for future improvement. 75% of users and carers rated their satisfaction with services as excellent or good. Examples of good practice include a discharge management team (DMT) run as a joint project between the local NHS Trust and social services. Priorities for action identified by the Review include: concentrating on meeting the needs of the most vulnerable older people; improving services to people with physical disabilities; and developing standard setting and quality assurance.
