AnnotationTameside is a metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester. The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution towards further improvement of the services provided. Within Tameside, the needs of some vulnerable people are met well, and there is a strong corporate culture of continuous improvement. However, service users and carers have mixed views about ease of access to services and on the quality of services available. Examples of good practice include information initiatives such as provision by the Learning Disabilities Quality Development Team, and the Council's website. The review also notes the Inspection Unit's preparedness for change to the Care Standards Commission. Priorities for action identified by the Review include: better links to the front line; better change management; and developing joint strategic commissioning. (RH).
