Annotation | 100 year-olds will be commonplace soon, and we need to ensure that their health is good. Although there have been improvements in medical care and treatment which have led to an increase in life expectancy, a longer life does not necessarily mean a healthier one. Gerontologist such as Tom Kirkwood suggest that we separate biological from chronological age, and that we pay attention to physical and mental exercise (including sex), and to our diet. This is one of a series of articles in a New Statesman special supplement on the theme "Your health". (RH). |
