Pagespp 21-27
KeywordsDementia ; General practitioners ; Communication skills ; Preventative medicine.
AnnotationDementia, a progressively incapacitating impairment of cognitive functioning with a relatively high incidence among older people, is unquestionably a devastating condition for patient and family alike. The greater emphasis now being given to improving the doctor's diagnostic skills in dementia needs to extend to the quality of communications that take place between the medical team and patient and carer around diagnosis and prognosis.
