Annotation | The positive relationship between age and health care expenditure observed in cross-sectional data may be caused by the fact that at age 70 and older, there are many more individuals living in their last two years than at age 60 and younger. This hypothesis was tested using data on 120 individuals who died between 1995 and 1997 who were members of a self-funded health insurance scheme of a major international organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
