AnnotationThe introduction of the National Service Framework for Older People (NSF) is the first national strategy to provide a framework for the provision of high quality care for older people, including people with dementia. This training handbook has been designed to help nursing and care assistants, by raising their awareness of the various issues involved in caring for older people with dementia in continuing care homes. Material is organised in six modules, each of which can stand alone or form part of a training programme: signs, symptoms, types and causes of dementia; communication and understanding the person with the illness; daily care and routines; challenging and aggressive behaviours; abuse; and communicating with relatives and informal carers.
