Annotation | The rationale for the thesis is the idea that there is a need for middle-aged people to engage in education and behaviour modification, so that in retirement they can enjoy improved health and well-being. While the general context is mainly British, the micro focus of the study is on pre-retirement needs and provision in Northern Ireland. People of retirement age were interviewed to establish their "felt and expressed needs", while "providers" were interviewed regarding "normative" needs. The study indicates a lack of funding and low priority for pre-retirement education in Northern Ireland.(RH). |
