Annotation | Support services are those services which currently come under the heading of "day care". The National Care Standards Committee (NCSC) has developed these standards with the help of a number of working groups including both users and service providers. The standards describe what each individual can expect from the service provider, focusing on the quality of life. The standards are grouped under headings which follow the person's journey through the support service, and are based on the principles of dignity, privacy, choice, safety, realising potential, and equality and diversity. Reference is made to the work of the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care (the Care Commission), which will register and inspect services, and the Scottish Social Services Council, which will have responsibility for promoting high standards of conduct and practice among social workers.
